The United States has tried to seize Russian Olegarch Abramovich’s planes.
A Justice Department official said Monday that U.S. authorities had obtained warrants for the seizure of two U.S.-owned planes owned by Russian businessman Roman Abramovich, which were flying unlicensed flights to Russia that attacked Ukraine. Were imposed in response to US sanctions on Moscow.
The U.S. Department of Commerce has also filed administrative charges against Abramovich, who is said to have named his Russian children as beneficiaries of “shell companies” in February who bought Boeing 787 Dreamliners and Gulfstream G650 ER aircraft. Owners, but that he kept controlling them.
The allegations come as US officials try to pressure business leaders close to Russian President Vladimir Putin to persuade Moscow to suspend its “special military operation” in Ukraine. Abramovich has not been personally accepted by the United States.
The Commerce Department said Gulfstream flew from Istanbul to Moscow on March 12 and Boeing flew from Dubai to Moscow on March 4, after export sanctions were imposed on both on February 24. Because the planes belonged to the American-made Abramovich. They need a license to travel to Russia.
The federal prosecutor’s office in Manhattan said in its confiscation warrant that no licenses had been issued for the planes to fly to Russia. The sanctions are part of the broader export controls the United States has imposed since the invasion.
Commerce is demanding administrative sanctions against Abramovich, including a fine of up to 8 328,121 and denial of further export concessions.
