The United States has demanded the release of environmentalist Nguy Thi Khanh from Vietnam.
The award-winning founder of the Green Development Center was arrested in February on tax evasion charges.
The U.S. government has said it is “deeply concerned” about the sentencing of Vietnamese environmentalist and activist Nguy Thi Khanh and has called on Vietnam to release him.
Khan, Vietnam’s first recipient of the prestigious Goldman Environmental Prize, was arrested in February on charges of tax evasion. The founder of the Green Innovation and Development Center was detained in January.
The State Department did not say what crime he was convicted of.
