‘Miss’, ‘Mrs.’ Wimbledon champion off the honor board
Chris Evert appreciates that he, Serena Williams, and other Wimbledon women’s singles champions will now be listed on the All England Club’s honorary boards at Center Court Hallway with their first and last names – just like the men’s. There have always been title winners – “Miss” or “Mrs.” before.
Everett won three of the 18 Grand Slam singles trophies of her career at Wimbledon. So far, in her 1981 championship, her name has been “Mrs. J.M. Lloyd,” referring to her current husband, John Lloyd. For her first titles in 1974 and 1976, before her marriage, she was “Miss C.M. Everett.”
