Fear and Hate: America’s Travel Guide to the World
The State Department really wants traveling Americans to be wary of the “dangerous” world that their country helped create.
The current US State Department’s “Lebanon Travel Advisory”, updated June 6, urges Americans to stay away from the Middle East because of crime, terrorism, armed conflict, civil unrest, kidnappings and the limited capabilities of the Beirut embassy. At least review the country trip. Provide assistance to American citizens. “Three major” high-risk “parts of Lebanese territory have been assigned an even more dramatic” do not travel “warning: the Lebanon-Syria border, the Lebanon-Israeli border, and the asylum. Gazin’s settlements.
As an American citizen myself, I can say with certainty that during my most recent 10-day stay in the country, I felt the greatest danger – where I have been frequently since 2006 – of the ferris wheel on the Beirut beach. Was at the top, which somehow continues. Despite the infamous Lebanese power shortages, it has plunged much of the landscape into darkness.
Years ago, a ferris wheel operator commented to me that during the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982, the giant stopped working for only a short time. And it ended with the Israeli-backed massacre of thousands of unarmed people in Beirut’s Sabra and Shatila refugee camps – who spoke of the “dangers” of refugee settlements.
The United States, as it happens, gave the Israeli government the green light for the whole 1982 issue. Twenty-four years later, just before my inaugural visit in 2006, another bloody Israeli invasion of Lebanon was aided by imperialist domination, which sought to provide the Israeli military with instant navigation-guided bombs as well. Was (ultimately unsuccessful) charging exorbitant fees from its citizens for the luxury of evacuation from Lebanon.
Surprises you about US priorities – and the “limited capacity of the Beirut embassy to provide assistance to American citizens”.
The result, however, is that the State Department has no business warning about “terrorism” and “armed conflict” in Lebanon, as it has spent decades writing about Israel’s literal terrorism in the country. And yet the only mention of Israel in the Travel Advisory is in the context of the “Do not travel two” statement: “There have been sporadic rocket attacks on Israel from southern Lebanon in connection with the violence between Israel and Hezbollah,” – Lebanese political The party and the armed groups that emerged as a direct result of the 1982 invasion.
