Camidoh’s “Sugarcane Remix” Or Black Sherif’s “Kwaku The Traveler” — What’s The Best Song From Ghana This Year?

The DNA of what would become a global genre is what’s embedded in the two country’s music industries and why there’s always been a link between both. Hip-hop? Maybe not so much. But there’s no doubt that when it comes to Afrobeats, Nigeria and Ghana both bring something to the table.
In the years that have passed, we’ve had more than a few Ghanaian songs break into the Nigerian market.
Many of these songs have become hits so popular in Nigeria some people would begin to think it was from a Nigerian. But that’s just the way it is.
This year, for instance, two songs that have come from Ghana and have topped playlists in Nigeria are Camidoh’s “Sugarcane” and Black Sherif’s “Kwaku The Traveler.”
For Black Sherif, it was the Burna Boy effect from his “Second Sermon” remix that made his “Kwaku The Traveler” an instant hit.
Meanwhile, for Camidoh, it’s more than one thing. First, there’s the Mayorkun feature. Then there’s the song itself and how it has a style that isn’t unique to Ghana music at all. Also, with King Promise and Camidoh from Ghana, and Darkoo and Mayorkun being Nigerians, it was kind of an equal thing.
There is no doubt that Camidoh’s “Sugarcane” remix is one of the best songs out there this year. We can also say the same for Black Sherif’s drill hit, “Kwaku The Traveler.”
